The work of Dorcas

My desire has
always been to help people.
Below you will see some of the
things that I have started and
tried to do to help our
community and also people. We
must-- "be careful where we
walk, because we don't know if
we will have to cross that path
again."

History
Of
X-Cell Community Services Inc.
Incorporated in 1996 by Dorcas
Chandler
X-Cell
Community Services, Inc., began
as an idea in the mind of Dorcas
Chandler, Chief Executive
Officer. She met a man one-day
at a temporary agency who was
applying for a janitorial
position. All he wanted to do
was find a job, any job, so that
he could support his family.
However, in this computer age,
the temporary agencies do all of
their testing on computers.
This man was lost. He had no
computer skills. Dorcas, who
has always had a desire to help
people, was moved deeply by this
man - a stranger to her. She
could feel his frustration,
caused by his lack of computer
knowledge. It made her think
about the many people in today’s
society who lack the basic
computer knowledge that could
get them that much-needed job.
People who did not go to
college; people who were
misplaced in the work force due
to downsizing; people who came
from the old school when
computers were still a thing of
the future; and yes, elderly
people who are now forced to go
out and find work because Social
Security is not enough to live
on.
Here
began her dream of starting a
computer-training program in
1996, for people in the
community who didn’t have the
necessary computer knowledge to
get them in a better position to
excel. She also wanted to give
seminars on topics of interest
such as mentoring youth; dealing
with children with behavior
problems; single parenting; gang
prevention; etc. In August of
1996, Dorcas shared her ideas
with her parents, Pastor Garland
& Alma Chandler. They thought
the idea of a Computer School
was excellent, and advised her
to start building on this
dream. Bishop Chandler was the
pastor of Truelight Gospel
Ministries, until his death in
2003 from cancer, and allowed
Dorcas to operate out of the
church office. Dorcas moved her
computer equipment out of her
bedroom, and set it up in the
office of Truelight Gospel
Ministries. There she started
putting her ideas on paper.
At
this early stage, Dorcas was not
quite sure how to proceed in
starting up a computer center,
however, God placed people in
her path and began showing her
how to become a corporation.
X-Cell Community Services, Inc.,
became incorporated September
24, 1996.
In
November, Dorcas shared her
vision with Marti McKeon.
Marti was very inspired by what
Dorcas was trying to accomplish,
and felt compelled to assist her
in making this dream a reality.
Dorcas
wanted to make sure that a solid
foundation was laid for X-Cell,
however, later found out that
she had to redo some of her
corporate filings. It was truly
trial and error, however, she
continued, until she got it
right.
In
January 1997, Dorcas began
selecting her Board of Directors
and Advisors. By February, the
Board and Advisors were in
place. We had our first Board
Meeting on March 22, 1997 at the
Red Roof Inn in San Dimas,
California. At that time, many
ideas and goals were discussed
regarding X-Cell. During this
meeting, the Board decided that
we would bring it all together
by not only offering computer
training, but with that training
we would provide job development
skills and confidence building.
We then adopted the theme
“Bringing it all together”.
It was then that Dorcas realized
that her dream and passion for
the community was shared by her
Board and Advisors, and making
X-Cell Community Services a
reality rested on the shoulders
of all who were gathered at that
first Board Meeting.
On
April 18, 1997, X-Cell received
its 501©3, which allows us to
operate as a public support
organization. As a result, many
opportunities lie ahead for
X-Cell. We had our first
fund-raiser, a Bake Sale, on May
17, 1997 in front of Food 4 Less
on the corner of Holt and Indian
Hill in Pomona, to open our
first bank account. During the
month of April and May Dorcas
wrote the computer training
manuals (Excel, Word, Basic
Computer, and a Typing manual).
Included in these manuals are
job development skills,
self-development skills and
resources.
In
1997 Dorcas was introduced to a
teacher, who would share with
the organization ideas of
teaching youth to develop basic
study skills. We then launched
a pilot program called Operation
L.E.A.P.(Literacy Enrichment and
Achievement Program) to see if
we could make a difference in
the lives of youth. As the
program was a great success we
continued the program.
Our
Literacy program is geared to
helping children in the
surrounding areas ‘Understand
the Basics’. We teach basic
reading, writing, provide
mentoring programs, math and
computer skills to youth of all
ages.
It’s
not just about computers
anymore. It’s about making a
positive difference in adults
and youth lives in any way that
we can. It’s about giving people
the resources to make a positive
difference in their own lives.
It’s about people getting on
their feet and standing up
tall. It's about helping people
“Excel Expectations”.
With
all of our desire, we here at
X-Cell Community Services, Inc.,
want to help meet the needs of
the people of our community.

Writings By Dorcas
Love, expecting nothing back
“Heart Communications”
Written by: Dorcas C. Chandler
©2010
There I
was, sitting in a crowded room with tears running down my face
from the disappointments and everyday letdowns of life. As the
anguish and frustration had mounted up in my soul, I began to
question my existence and self-worth. Then I returned to my
home, a safe place: a place where I come to gather my thoughts
and find safety and comfort in my mind.
Moving
about my daily chores that morning, I was again confronted with
yet another challenge. “Not again,” I thought within myself. “I
can't handle any more pain.” I was sitting and minding my own
business working skillfully with my hands and bam!
Challenges
begin to stare me right in the face. I was face-to-face with
another verbal confrontation and did not even know how I got
there. I remember early that morning when I rose to start my
day-to-day activities, I received a word from God down in my
spirit. The word was, Today you shall have perfect victory—not
knowing that within minute I would be challenged to speak out of
turn again. Sometimes with me it comes so easy to do. “Oh,
no,” I thought within myself, “I am so tired of speaking out of
turn and speaking from a place of pain.” I had no more strength
to fight and all I wanted was for my character to be like the
Lord’s.
This time
I held my peace as fire arose within my soul. When we are
experiencing pain within ourselves, we tend too use harsh words,
words that cut to the very soul. I did not say a word, I held my
mouth shut. Every fiber in my being was saying, “Speak out, you
don’t have to take that.” I warred within myself, and then I
could hear in my spirit, Today you shall have perfect
victory. Don’t say anything—not even a word.
The
pressures of the conversation begin to subside within me, for I
took comfort within those words. As the conversation ended, I
fell back in the chair. Tears began to run down my cheeks, for
I felt for a moment that I had lost the battle. Then again I
heard, Today you shall have perfect victory.
I
composed myself, and went on with my day. It is not always easy
to hold your peace when you think you have been violated or
dealt with unfairly; but if God be for us who can be against
us. We must take comfort in God’s written and spoken Word and
never blame anyone else for our own actions and conversation.
I
returned to my work, working hard to try to erase and deal with
the pain that I was feeling in my heart. The struggle was not
to let those words enter into my heart. In order to do that, I
knew that I had to change my meditation and my heart
communication.
What is
heart communication? Heart communication is the talk we are
talking inwardly to ourselves that no one else hears but us. We
are talking even when we are not talking. If we allow harsh
words to become implanted in our heart, we will become bitter
against the person, or situation. Then, when we speak of that
challenge that is trying to hold us prisoners, we will never be
able to speak peacefully of it, because out of the heart comes
conversation.
Conversation
is our communication and meditation. When the conversation that
took place that morning tried to come up again and again in my
spirit that I was holding in silence and secret, I would cast
down the thoughts with something good and change my
communication.
There
are times in our lives that we so desperately want the approval
of another, or just want to feel like we count or have worth or
value to another. Then there are the times we have made so many
mistakes for trying to get things right and always seeming to
get them wrong that we begin to question our own existence and
self-worth. These are the times we seek for the approval of
others.
But what
if that approval never comes? What will we do? We will spend
our whole lives look for answers and approvals from people that
may or may not ever give us the approval or acceptance that we
are looking for. And that emotion and feeling will only lead to
allowing the enemy of our soul to continue to accuse us before
God and always have us walking in a state of disappointment.
Being
disappointed will rob us of life, our dreams, our time spent
with God, and also cause us to make wrong decisions and
choices. It is a silent killer. It tears at our soul.
As I
sat, I heard yet another word from God. This time I did not
understand what it meant. I heard, “LOVE, EXPECTING NOTHING
BACK”. I stopped what I was doing to entertain the
thought. How can you Love expecting nothing back! I thought
within myself. If you give, you are supposed to receive. Then
the Lord began to minister to my heart. He challenged me to
show kindness in the face of pain and disappointment. That was
not something I wanted to do.
When
conflict comes in our live, we want the other person to at least
pay with something, we want them to feel bad after the fight, so
we start out down the road of ATTITUDE, because after all they
are guilty, and the guilty must pay. But that is not the
characteristics of God.
As I
began to show acts of kindness, the Lord began to reveal His
Word to me. He shared with me when you ‘love expecting nothing
back’ you take on the divine nature of God and release others
from being who you thought they were or who you want them to
be. Then, and only then, you release all spirits of control
over others’ lives because what we are trying to control is
controlling us.
I asked
him, “How?” He gave me an illustration of people walking in a
store to buy food that they did not make nor had the ability to
make it grow. They place the food in the basket and go one
their way never saying thank you God or even appreciating the
kindness or provision that he has showed for them; yet he keeps
on LOVING.
Then He
let me see and understand the days, nights, and wind. He showed
me how He allows trees to blow to give off the necessary oxygen
for mankind that we may breathe: day to labor, and night to
cease from laboring; but many of people never acknowledge what
He does for them in a course of a day. A countless number of
things God provides for us every day of our lives, and we move
on into the next day without gratitude and yet He remains
faithful to Himself. I began to get the picture.
God just
keeps on giving and giving and giving and keeps on doing what He
does for his children, because it is simply his divine nature.
He just is, and will always be Himself! He gives because He is
God. God is Love! Love is everything, everything we will ever
need.
When we
get the divine nature of God and ask Him to help us in our
everyday relationships and challenges, whatever they may be, we
can become like God. Why? Because we have His divine nature.
Then, and only then, will we have His heart communication
springing up in our souls, and will find it easy “to release all
conflicts and let them go” and “Love, expecting nothing
back.

The Power of Resistance-Imprints on the heart!
Written by: Dorcas C. Chandler
©2008
It was a rainy
and wet morning outside. I could hear the rain bounding against
the window panes and on top of the house. It was a good day just
to relax and enjoy the rain. My plans were to get a few chores
done around the house and get prepared to relax and watch a
video. The telephone rang; it took me in a total different
direction. The caller was upset and angry and did not waste
anytime expressing it. After I hung up the phone, my head was
bounding, I could feel my blood pressure rush to my head and
before I knew it, I was in a state of anguish.
As I tilted my
head back in the chair and begin to rehearse the phone call, all
I could say was wow! I did not argue with the person who
was upset, but I could have told this person a thing or too.
Then I begin to reflect on the word resistance. This
word had been on my mind all week and I had been pondering it in
my heart, wondering what it was God was trying to speak to me
about.
My day had been
altered; my head ache was going to see to that. I lie across my
bed, and begin to rehearse the conversation. This was my
rehearsal; I don’t know who they think they were talking to;
this is not my problem anyway; who do they think they are; and
so on and on; I played the tape over and over in my mind as I
laid with my head bounding against the pillow. The person had
called me back again, and I was about to take the conversation
to the next level. Then I thought for what, this is not even
worth it, I held my peace. Pick your fights; if you are not
going to gain a million dollars in cash on them;
then trash them! It is as simple as that. It is a new year.
After a while
God begin to speak to my soul, letting me know about
resistance. He said, if you want to get rid of the head ache
let go of the resistance, release it. I asked him how, and he
told me to stop rehearsing it. God begin to minister to me, and
my head ache left me, once I released the offense and let go of
the resistance in my mind. We can be free and yes we can win
over the power of resistance!
All things are
possible if we just believe. Next time when confrontation comes
your way, and it will come, try to resist resistance or the war
in your mind about the offense. Then stop the rehearsal in your
mind, pray and God will help you to go to the next level.
Arguments: Why
is it that we seem to argue every time someone does something
that we don’t like?
It is because of
resistance: Some people come from backgrounds where people did
not know how to handle confrontation in a proper manner. The
way they handled there confrontation was to always resist; speak
loud, violent behavior, or use verbal abuse to get there point
across.
We are not
responsible for another person's action nor can we be in control
of what another does or says. We must always take responsibility
for ourselves, no one else. Sometimes because of a learned
behavior that we have seen as an example or roll model of how to
win over conflicts in our childhood, we develop the same learned
behavior by, arguing or showing some type of resistance or
resentment and trying to win over disagreements. When we are in
conflict there are no winners. We must seek for the peace of
God, He is the winner.
In our quest
for defending ourselves and not wanting to be violated or to be
attacked, we resist when we are in conflict, whether we are
right or wrong. It is the human nature of man to be in control;
not too many want to be wrong or even corrected in the face of
confrontation.
When people
resist something that someone is said, it causes us to
generally lash out in an argument way or to become uneasy within
ourselves. This is when we can know that we are resisting the
words that have been spoken to us. Resistance is a powerful
word; we practice it without even being aware. The word
resistance means; confrontation, fight or fighting, battle,
struggle and conflict.
The scripture
plainly tells us that we do not war against flesh and blood.
Why then are our biggest battles in life with people, flesh and
blood? Why do we lash out at people we love the most; friends
and even strangers when we are confronted with a challenge that
rubs us the wrong way?
In my search for
wanting to win over words that cause conflict and have a Godly
attitude, I asked God why is it that I seem to get so upset and
want to argue when someone does something that displeases me or
if I think I am right? This is what He spoke to me.
The only way to
release someone of an offense is to stop the
resistance that lodges in the mind. The only way you can
stop resistance in the mind is to stop rehearsing
the offence. We will never be able to stop confrontation. It is
a part of life. Man, born of a woman, is of few day, and full
of trouble. Job 14:1. How we handle confrontation is another
challenge and story within itself. God wants us as believers to
stop being offended! We can do all things through Christ that
strengthens us, it can be done! We can no longer blame our
parents, teacher, or circumstances for the way we use words in
conflict. God wants us to go to another level in Him.
The unexpected
will get you going in another direction, so you must always
watch and be on your guard for change. You can be headed in a
positive direction when you make your plans for the day, and
before you know it, a confrontation can send you in a totally
different direction, if you allow it. Watch as
well as pray, and remember you are not a loser because you
choose to show self control with words. Winners understand the
value and power of words in times of conflict and know that
death and life is in the power of the tongue. Words have a
power that can leave invisible imprints on the heart, sometimes
never to be erased. We must be careful and asked God to put a
watch over our mouth so that when we speak we are choosing life
and not death. When you recognize someone other than God has
altered your path, step back take a look, release it and let it
go. You are worth it; see you at the top, Never Give-Up-Never!

Teach me how to love you Lord
Poem
The
Crossing over of a solider
Written By:
Dorcas
C. Chandler© 2004
So you
went on ahead;
And
left this life behind;
The
cares, the woes and all of the foes;
But God has met you;
the
one who knew you best; He is now allowing you, to
enter
into His rest;
Even though you left us hear, know one thing;
you
will always be near;
Near
to our heart and in our hearts;
because one thing about love, it never departs;
Time and space, can never erase; the times we
shared
worshiping and seeking the Masters face.
For
the Master has come and calleth for thee;
Oh the
joy! It must be;
but
know one thing as we await;
We are
also looking to see our Saviour and salute
Him at
the pearly gate:
You ran your race and ran it well;
Now
it's our turn to finish, and we must prevail.
When
we become weak, we must remember strength;
When
we are faced with loneliness, we must look
inside
our hearts, for you are there; and always remember God's tender
care.
I will
embrace courage, when tears run down my face;
for I
have yet but to complete and finish this Christian race.
Life is a vapor; I must admit;
but
one thing life have taught me; we must
never
quit! So go on up ahead; you Christian Soldier;
I
salute you with love, joy and peace;
Know
one thing, I also wait; I look to
see
you and Jesus standing at heavens white gate.
